MEET THE TEAM

JAMES MARLOW MCIOF (CERT) -
DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING

I’m passionate about helping charities reach their full potential. After starting my career in marketing for a major company, I realised I wanted to do more—something that would have a direct, positive impact on others. A move to The Lifetrain Trust in 2001 allowed me to combine my skills with a sense of purpose, working to support young people and disabled individuals in Surrey.

In just a few years, I won the ‘Best New Fundraiser’ at the National Fundraising Convention and a surge of interest followed. I saw an opportunity to help smaller organisations that didn’t have the resources to employ a dedicated fundraising team. That’s how JAM Fundraising Consultants was born. This led to me working with charities, large and small, including the largest organisation in the UK helping women experiencing homelessness.

I joined the Collabonations team in 2022 after working across a range of industries, mostly centred around Customer Service. I’ve always been driven by a strong sense of altruism, wanting to create a positive difference in my community. I’ve been volunteering in the charity sector since a young age, working in befriending services, food waste initiatives, human rights education and addiction charities. Last year, I decided it was time to combine my work and volunteer experience to work full-time in a role that has a direct and meaningful impact on my community.

Working at Collabonations has enabled me to work for a company that generates meaningful and direct results for the charities it represents. Every day I get to connect with people who share my passion for community-led change, empowering those who need it most. Through Collabonations I get the privilege of working with a wide range of partners, local businesses, multi-national companies, philanthropic groups, individuals, Trusts and Foundations and every day I am blown away by the generosity of people. I have worked to generate donations from £1,000 to half a million, creating and maintaining strong relationships with all who support us. The reward of knowing that my work directly supports meaningful causes is what makes it so worthwhile and every day I am grateful to work within a team that holds these same values.

With a background in academia and the charity sector, I love working in roles that allow me to research exciting projects, make a positive difference in people’s lives, and meet lots of kind and fascinating people. Luckily, I found all of this and more when I joined the Collabonations team in late 2024.

I have a PhD in cancer biology and worked for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer research and support charity for over 5 years where I supported and led on successful grants and gifts ranging from £5,000 to £300,000. For as long as I can remember, I’m motivated by curiosity and wanting to make a difference, and my core values are inclusion, connection, creativity, and well-being. I get immense satisfaction supporting my colleagues, sharing ideas, and building effective relationships. Working at Collabonations means I am always learning something new and am surrounded by people who also highly value making the world a better place.
